Greedy people like me aren’t terribly fussy when it comes to food. The essence of eating just doesn't permit it, not when you are the kind of person who, when you think no one is looking, will steal leftovers left behind on the plates of others beleaguered with average appetites. A regular buffet is an opportunity to gorge, to consume as much as possible without thinking about what I’m eating. The champagne brunch at Starhill Gallery allows you to do the same but demands that you take notice of what you’re eating, such is the menu that’s on offer.
The standard offerings are available: a carving station offering beef and lamb, an assortment of salads as well as Chinese, Japanese and Italian cuisine. What is worth coming here for is their main course selection which encompasses everything from mixed grill, wagyu beef, pasta and teppanyaki sets – all personally and lovingly cooked on the spot and delivered to your table. Go for the Lemon Butter Sauce Lobster Thermidor – the meat is soft and delicious and I find myself lapping up every square inch. If you prefer lobster ‘as is’, the Grilled Half Boston Lobster is equally tasty. Our only sore point is that you can only order one dish from the main course menu. Opt for the champagne option (why wouldn’t you?), you’ll receive unlimited amounts of Piper-Heidsieck Champagne. We’d also like to point you to their cocktail menu, specifically in the direction of the deceptively strong Coconut Margarita.
Nothing elevates the mood like brunch so the room buzzed with that happy noise of people for whom brunch has a way of putting life in its proper perspective. This is a city that, whatever else it doesn’t do, does talk. We definitely feel that this brunch is worth talking about. Syazlynia Rahim
