KUALA LUMPUR: Motor vehicle sales in September rose by 1,465 units or 3.3 per cent to 45,872 units from the 44,407 units in the same month last year, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
In a statement today, the MAA said the passenger car segment recorded sales of 40,232 units compared to 39,628 units last year, and commercial vehicles rose to 5,640 units from 4,779 units.
However, on a month-on-month basis, the sales volume in September fell 11.5 per cent or 5,936 units to 45,872 units from the 51,823 units recorded in August.
The MAA said the weak performance was due to consumers adopting a wait and see attitude pending announcement of the Budget 2013.
It said output last month increased to 50,096 units from 44,775 units in the same month of last year.
Passenger car production improved to 45,138 units from 40,314 units in the same month of 2011, while commercial car production rose slightly to 4,958 units from 4,461 units.
On outlook, the MAA said motor vehicle sales in October is expected to be maintained at the September’s level. — BERNAMA
