KUALA LUMPUR: AmResearch Sdn Bhd has maintained its ‘overweight’ call on the construction sector amid rising prospects for
infrastructure-related works to support massive power projects in Sarawak.
In a note today, AmResearch said Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) was expected to face the urgency to prod the roll-out of its power programme, as the entire firm output of Bakun (1,771 megawatts) and Murum (635 megawatts) dams had already been taken up by pioneer investors operating at the Samalaju Industrial Park in
Bintulu division.
“These power projects would ultimately benefit local contractors with a strategic niche, notably Hock Seng Lee, KKB Engineering and Naim Holdings,” it said.
The research house also envisaged Sarawak Cable as another key beneficiary of SEB’s rising capital expenditure cycle — where it is one of five parties that had originally been pre-qualified for the 500-kilovolt transmission line project linking Bintulu to Kuching. — BERNAMA
