THE SECOND SENIOR OFFICIALS MEETING ON SPORTS (SOMS-2)

CHIANG MAI, 23rd OCTOBER 2012 – The Second ASEAN Senior Official Meeting on Sports (SOMS-2) is on, starting from today until 24th October 2012. The two days meeting is held at Chiang Mai Province, Thailand as the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand willing to be the host country after the first one by Indonesia.
The delegation from Malaysia is lead by the Director General of the National Youth and Sports, Madam Hatipah Ibrahim, together with the Ministry’s senior officer from International Relations Division, National Sports Council and Sports Industry Division.One of the main objectives of the meeting is the inclusion of the pronouncement of ASEAN Sports Industry Year 2013 in the Chairman’s statement to be made at the forthcoming ASEAN Summit to be held in November 2012 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
On top of the purpose of endorsement the ASEAN workplan of sports, the outcome of the meeting will be presented during the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS) which will be held in Lao PDR next year.
